Our school runs on community spirit. For over 50 years, parent volunteers have been the backbone of Calgary Mandarin School.
Parent volunteers help with everything from classroom support to event planning to administrative tasks. No special skills required — just a willingness to pitch in.
Many parents volunteer while their children attend class, making it easy to be involved. It's a wonderful way to connect with other families and contribute to your child's learning community.
High school students are welcome too, and several of our classroom assistants are former students. Volunteering is unpaid, but the hours are not invisible: we record every hour you give us and sign a letter confirming them — the letter a scholarship committee, a university admissions office or an employer asks to see.
Help teachers with activities, crafts, and student supervision during class
Help organize cultural celebrations, performances, and school events
Assist with registration, communications, and organizational tasks
Help bring Chinese festivals and traditions to life for our students
Hours are recorded, and we sign a letter confirming them.

Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and knowledge of Traditional Chinese characters
Prior teaching or tutoring experience is helpful, but not required
A genuine passion for teaching and working with students of all ages
Available Saturday mornings, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM during the school year
A desire to help preserve and share Chinese language and culture

Our teachers come from all backgrounds — some are professional educators, others are community members with a passion for teaching. What matters most is dedication to our students.
We provide curriculum materials, classroom resources, and a supportive team environment. You bring the knowledge and enthusiasm.
Teaching here is a paid position, not a volunteer one. The hourly rate is set by the board, reviewed every year, and kept competitive. Good teaching is the whole school, and we would rather pay for it than ask for it free.
